Silicon Barium alloy is a kind of ferroalloy mainly containing Silicon and Barium. In casting, it can promote the formation of A-type graphite, refine the eutectic group, improve the distribution of graphite, and have strong anti-recession ability. When Silicon Barium Inoculant is a good deoxidizer in steelmaking. It is smoke-free and spark-free, and the deoxidation effect is higher than that of calcium silicon alloy. It can also improve the form of non-metallic inclusions and improve the quality of steel.
Evidently, SIlicon Barium Inoculant is mainly for in gray cast iron and ductile iron production. The emergence of inoculants promotes the development of gray cast iron and makes the production technology of ductile iron and vermicular graphite iron more perfect.
At present, when producing silicon-barium inoculant at home and abroad, ferrosilicon is generally from electric arc furnace. Then the ferrosilicon and barium-containing raw materials will apply to the intermediate frequency furnace.
Silicon Barium Applications
In Casting:
The inoculant is suitable for gray cast iron and ductile iron, and can promote the formation of complete graphite nodules into “A” type graphite. It can nucleate in a wide temperature range, has strong spheroidization ability and anti-recession ability. Meanwhile, it can effectively prevent the tendency of castings to become white. Besides, the deoxidation effect is relatively thorough and better than other deoxidation alloy agents. The added amount is 35-50% of 75# ferrosilicon.
In Steelmaking:
When silicon barium alloy containing 10%-35% barium is a deoxidizer in steelmaking, it has high utilization rate and strong desulfurization ability, which is better than silicon-calcium alloy. Moreover, the addition of silicon-barium alloy can cause important changes in the nature and distribution characteristics of non-metallic inclusions. Adding an appropriate amount of silicon-barium alloy into steel can improve the plasticity and toughness at high and low temperatures. Silicon-barium ferro is most effective in improving the cold resistance of steel.
