Ferrosilicon 75 Applications

Ferrosilicon is a ferroalloy composed of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon 75 generally refers to ferro silicon with a silicon content of more than 75%. It has many uses. The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is great. In steelmaking, ferrosilicon is a deoxidizer. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of the steel. Therefore, ferrosilicon is also an alloy additive for silicon steel.

In casting, silicon also plays a role in nurturing and spheroidizing graphite. Ferrosilicon prevents the formation of carbides in cast iron and promotes the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. Improve various properties of cast iron.

Ferrosilicon also plays an important role in the production of magnesium metal. The Pidgeon process produces magnesium metal, which uses high-temperature smelting. Ferrosilicon 75 can replace the magnesium element in magnesium oxide. Moreover, for every ton of Magnesium Ingot produced using this method, approximately 1.2 tons of ferrosilicon are consumed.

Low Aluminum Ferrosilicon

The aluminum content of conventional ferrosilicon 75 is generally less than 1.5%. In addition, there are some low aluminum ferrosilicon models. The aluminum content can reach less than 1.0%, 0.5%, and 0.1% respectively. This kind of Low Al Ferrosilicon is generally used in the production of special steel grades.
